have a brand new dishwasher, and after 10 washes have noticed rust around the salt refill. Contacted customer services of shop who said it was from bad use!! Said l hadn’t followed user manual. I strongly disagreed as checked both languages to make sure there weren’t any miss-translations, followed the manual, cleaned up salt and ran a wash programme. Can this be a fault in the metal, or joining around the compartment. I had my other dishwasher 28 years!!!

    Hi Susan,

If it is stainless then about the only way that it can “rust” is through direct contact with salt sat on it at least in that sort of use at any rate. There really isn’t anything else that can possibly cause it.

You’ll find the same sort of warnings on pots and pans that are or lined with stainless about undiluted salt on them, it will wreck them in short order. You will get pitting and “rust” appearing.

I hear what you are saying, and l would be the first to admit to any damage caused by leaving salt in the dishwasher, but l followed instruction manual and immediately did a wash program after filling salt for first time.
