ParticipantI have an Integrated CDA Dishwasher WC140 which I have been using for about 9 years.
When I try to use it now it trips the RCD Fuse box after a few seconds of being switched on. However, it will work on the Prewash (No Heat) setting.
This leads me to believe that the heating element is faulty. Does anyone disagree with this? If so what else might it be?
I was also wondering if there was a test I could carry out on the heating element before I spend £70 on a replacement.
I have tried to find a short between earth and the various terminals on the element but cannot find any.
I have measured the resistance between, what I think are, the element ends and it measures 25ohms.
Thanks

Moderatortry disconnecting the element. make sure wires are insulated and cant short. Then see if it will run. If the machine does not detect element then should run till it realises its not heating

KeymasterWatch the serial number on these as they can and do change on the production run!
There are at least two heaters used, these two:

They are not the same and not interchangeable.

ParticipantThanks for the suggestion Dave. I tried that and it resulted in no program light turning on and so couldn’t start a wash. I reconnected the wires to the terminal and still no program lights, but the machine still trips. I think it’s something more than first thought.
I think I’ve reached the point where I will retire the machine and buy a new one. I suppose 9 years isn’t a bad innings.
K- thanks for pointing that out. I was going to look if the part numbers were compatible as mine was different from the eBay one and I had previously seen two identical looking ones on Whitegoods but they had different part numbers.

Moderatorconsidering who made it I think 9 years is really good as they are not one of the most reliable makes

ParticipantIt camecwith the kitchen. Which make would you recommend Dave? Not looking to spend a fortune – just need something to wash dishes – not bothered about all the bells and whistles!

Moderatorif you want cheap and cheerful with a 2 year warranty I would put a Beko. Most models only have a 1 year warranty but with Beko integrated, provided you register the appliance, you get another year. And if ever needed spares should not be a problem

KeymasterAnd if you want better, Smeg as they’re okay for the money as well and better than Beko build wise normally.
