Hi Guys, I have a bosch HBN53R550B/46 double under and the main oven does not appear to hold temperature. I have tried all the available settings to manipulate the elements in different ways but the result is always the same. Having placed a manual thermostat in the oven with 3d hot air selected I can see that the temperature can be somewhere between 25 to 50 degrees under the oven setting. The situation appears to be more obvious when the oven is on for an extended time. I have replaced the thermostat with control wheel but it has made no difference. Is anyone aware of a way to calibrate this oven or have any further suggestions, really pulling my hair out now [IMG2=JSON]{“data-align”:”none”,”data-size”:”full”,”src”:”https://www.applianceblog.com/mainforums/images/smilies/wall.gif”}[/IMG2][IMG2=JSON]{“data-align”:”none”,”data-size”:”full”,”src”:”https://www.applianceblog.com/mainforums/images/smilies/wall.gif”}[/IMG2][IMG2=JSON]{“data-align”:”none”,”data-size”:”full”,”src”:”https://www.applianceblog.com/mainforums/images/smilies/wall.gif”}[/IMG2]…. For reference the top oven is fine and tend to use this mostly now. Thanks in advance for the assistance…..

I had this on my own oven. The fan oven element has 2 circuits. One goes so weak heat.check continuity with meter

when you select an oven setting and set a temperature a red light comes on. this red light goes out when the stat reaches the set temperature. When you operate the oven is thia red light staying on or does it go out when it reaches the set temp

you also say the oven is not holding temp. What do you mean by that. Is it getting to correct temp and then getting colder from there ?

Hi, the red light still cycles on and off but the physical temperature is too low, when the oven knob is set at say 200c, the oven is more like 175c even when turning up higher to say 220c it doesn’t seem to increase, any ideas how the temperature limiter circuit would interrelate???

well if that’s the case its cant be an element problem as the thermostat is turning off the oven as it believes its the correct temp

I assume you are sure you fitted the correct stat and the temp sensor phial is located in the correct place

if all ok. its a large oven and the temp sensor is measuring the temp where it is so you can assume that different parts of the oven are at different temperatures. up to 25 degrees difference is possible but over that is unusual. Is the door closing ok, if working ok the door should snap shut the last inch. have had a few ovens with worn hinges where the door is slightly open and therefore losing heat

Hi Dave, thanks for your reply. I am satisfied that the temp sensor and thermostat is in good order as replaced with genuine Bosch part and the oven performs the same. I am interested in the point you have made about the hinges and I will explore that. Have you any idea how the over temp switch works. How could I tell if that was a problem???

any over temp of the oven is normally sensed outside the oven cavity. I am not sure where it is on this oven or if its got one. most ovens including this one have a fan to blow cool air around the controls etc. this affects the grill section more than the oven and if the overheat stat goes it normally turns off the fan as well

    Is the cooling fan running?
