ParticipantAfternoon all,
Model WVD2452BGB/04.
Metal drum, only leaks when water gets to a certain level. Appears to be coming from the back of the drum at the bottom. Identified location by removing front, pouring as much water in the drum as possible without it spilling out, tipping the machine back until it started leaking. Having a feel around it doesn’t appear to be running down from anywhere else, but can’t be certain without dismantling the whole thing. It’s a slow leak, only loses about a pint in the course of a normal wash.
Any top tips gratefully received!November 13, 2018 at 5:18 pm #459024electrofix
Moderatorthere is a cast cross at the rear of the drum. This has a water seal that seal the spider against the drum stainless steel rear.
sounds like that seal has failed

ParticipantThanks Dave, is that a straight forward thing to repair (once the drum has been removed from the cabinet)?

Moderatorfrom memory there is just enough room to remove the spider and leave everything else in situ. bit of a tight squeeze but saves house of stripping the machine down

ParticipantHello Dave,
This job was put on the back burner for a while. I’m back on the case and struggling to find the appropriate part. Been in touch with someone from UKWhitegoods who said as far as they were aware it wasn’t possible to get the seal separately, it might come with a new spider (SKU 00283726 for £200!) or a new bearing kit might do the trick. I’ve changed the bearings before – not a job to undertake without knowing it’s absolutely necessary! Any suggestions gratefully received.

ParticipantHello Dave,
Finally got on the case today, bit of a wrestle but the spider is out. Removing the bearing seal is proving nigh on impossible – is there a way to get it out without knocking the bearings out?
cheers in advance

Moderatoryou can try and get a large screwdriver under it and lever it out but if you done want to damage the bearing you have to be careful

ParticipantHello Dave,
thanks for the prompt response
it occurs to me that having got this far, I might as well replace the bearings anyway. The link for the bearing kit you included above does not list my model number, should I find a different one?February 17, 2019 at 2:26 pm #459033electrofix
Moderatorheres is the research
