Hi, I think that the motor start capacitor on my drier is going low capacity. The motor struggles to start on a full load, but will run when lightly loaded. There seems to be a huge variation in price for a 8uF 450vAC cap. Ranging from £3.00 (general purpose) to over £25.00 from a large high profile on-line spares distributor for a manufacturers direct replacement.

Any thoughts on this, what would someone in the trade do? I’m tempted just to fit a general purpose capacitor, surely the circuit isn’t that fussy on value?

Thanks for any comments, help or advice. SJM.

the correct capacitor clip in a special slot. the cheaper caps mount on a single stud with a 13mm nut fastening so wont fit properly

Thanks for the reply and link. It seems as the fitting is something of a ‘one-off’ you have to use the original capacitor. Or fit a non-standard replacement and use a home made fitting… (bodge..?)

    Regards, SJM
