ParticipantHi, I have a Servis electric cooker. Yesterday whilst using the fan oven the electrics tripped, I only realised it was the oven after I opened the door and the light was on and the fan was blowing but it was stone cold. I can use the oven either with the fan or as a conventional oven without the fan, so I tried it without the fan and it heats up normally. My question is could I just carry on using the oven on the conventional setting as that doesn’t seem to be affected? I’m assuming there is more than one element in it, since it’s cold on the fan oven setting but heats up on the conventional setting. I could really do without the expense of a repair just before Christmas! Thanks.

KeymasterTripping can be caused by almost anything, as explained here:
But from what you say my best guess would be the fan element, then the fan motor, then the switch. From what you say I’d reckon it’d almost for sure be the element though but I’d need to know the model to tell you what one was in it.

ParticipantThanks. It’s a Servis DC60w. So would the elements for the conventional oven setting be separate to the fan element? I’m guessing so, since that setting heats up and the fan setting doesn’t. Would it hurt my cooker to simply use the conventional oven which works and ignore the broken fan oven until after Christmas?

KeymasterThe element in it is:

It won’t harm it to use it on conventional only but if that goes for any reason you will be stuck.

ParticipantLovely thanks, I’ll save that link. I’ll weigh up if I want to take my chances. I’ve used the fan oven for two years solid and barely used the conventional setting at all so if they’re different elements, which they must be if it’s still heating up when not on the fan setting, then it’s had hardly any use, so no reason it would suddenly break too. CROSS EVERYTHING.
