ParticipantHi there – I have a Smeg Toaster TSF01PBUK which we received as a present a couple of years ago. The centre element has failed. I have had a long and fruitless discussion with Smeg. Apparently they do not offer a spares service and would normally replace the whole item if I had the proof of purchase which I don’t. They offered me a replacement at a reduced cost of £70! I actually had no idea that the original price would have been in the region of £130. It seems ridiculous that I am going to have dispose of this toaster just because I cannot find a replacement element. I have searched the internet without success so I was wondering if anyone knew of a compatible element that would fit my toaster? I would be grateful for any suggestions.

ParticipantHi Dave – No, I haven’t! I had presumed that it would have been an easy fix with the correct part but maybe you know something I don’t! I’ll have a look to see if I can get the failed element out! Thanks for alerting me.

Moderatorunfortunately this is the age we now live in. manufacturers have goods made in China so cheap its not worth thinking about spares. These appliances are so cheap that any that do fail its more cost effective to replace the appliance rather than repair it. A lot of appliances are so difficult to take apart as the design is all about production and not about service. You might well find things are spot welded rather than screwed and lots of plastic clips that break on removal. The only way this will ever change is if the consumer demands it and does the research to find the appliances that have a spares back up
As you I would have thought with a price of over £100 this appliance would have some spares available but no. I did check the Smeg spares portal and the toaster does not even get listedDave

ParticipantHi, There is a problem with the Smeg toaster, the lever slides down but doesn’t stay or get engaged. After removing the case, I followed all the steps from brushing to cleaning all around the toaster body and the lever contacts then it worked while it is out of its case, the stop and temperature knob and the buttons illuminate and function while the toaster body is out of the case, but again the lever slides down but doesn’t stay or get engaged when I put the case back on, I tried three times, the lever still does not engage when the case is on. Any idea what could be the problem? Thank you
