    Hi

I have a Hotpoint built in oven model number BU71 (about 10 or 11 years old) which needs a new main oven element. I purchased online a genuine Hotpoint replacement part from “Element Replacement.co.uk” which I fitted last night but when I used the oven it overheated (jacket potato burnt on the outside and raw in the middle in 25 minutes…. should have taken an hour without burning). The new element was physically correct but I can only assume was the wrong wattage (2500W). Can anyone tell me what wattage it should be and what the element resistance should be?

    Thanks

set the oven on its lowest temperature say 50 degrees and see what happens if it get very hot then your thermostat is probably faulty

gen element for this model is this one 2500W

also beware there are 2 different thermostat fitted to this model. the stat changed in july 2003 from a Rathgeber made stat to a Diamond H made unit

both are different so I suggest you ask the site shop for the correct one should be either part no

    C00199551 or C00231795

Thanks for that Dave, I’ve tried setting the oven to 80 degrees but it definitely started to get too hot. Next question…. please can you tell me where the thermostat is located? This oven was purchased in 2008/2009 so can I assume from the part numbers you gave me that the correct replacement part will be C00231795?

    Many thanks

its behind the knob you turn to operate it

and it has a sensor tube that runs into the oven cavity and is held on with clips
