Potential bearings job on a Miele W562. Anyone know the difference between a 35x76x10/18 and a 35x76x10/14 bearing seal?
Parts list says that machine needs 35x76x10/18 (part no 4385974) but it’s proving difficult to find. This site sells a bearing kit with a 35x76x10/14 seal. I’ve seen pictures of both but can’t really tell the difference. What does the last 2 digits refer to?

For a standard R23 double lip seal 35x76x10/14
    35mm inner diameter
    76mm outer diameter
    10mm outer depth
    14mm inner depth

The genuine seal is not a standard R23 type. It is marked as 18mm thick but this may be the total depth taking the extra stepped rubber flange into account.

So I guess my next question is, will the 10/14 fit instead of the 10/18?

Unfortunately I have not seen a Miele bearing job, Way too expensive for my customers.

Just guessing from a picture of the genuine seal kit (part no. 5387003) The deeper (flanged) oil seal may be used to provide the pressure on the tank/spider gasket. If this is the case then the tank/spider gasket is likely to leak.

Difficult to say more without strippling the job down to see what the flanged genuine seal does.

Thanks Murv, sounds like I’d better go for the genuine seal then. I can now see some difference between the two seals, wasn’t so obvious on the photos I’d seen before because of the angle there were taken at.
