    Hi,
I have a Machine that stops partway through the cycle with a code A5.
I have had the inlet valve out and checked its operation and it works (at least when energised water flows through it at what seems a sensible rate.)
I can’t find a float valve or switch that senses the fill level.
So is it some sort of pressure switch or timing fault?
Is the smaller tube connected to the inlet valve part of the water management system?
    How does that work?

The machine seems to wash and pump out ok if I add water manually

    Thanks in anticipation.

    Hi Henry,
We seemed to have missed this one. Basically, A5 is no fill within the time allowed, and is an awkward one to solve. There is no float shut-off on these, but there is a pressure shut off on the valve. This can shut off on a nuisance basis given the age of the machine; the fill matrix can become choked with detritus over the years, causing the pressure system to the valve to be activated; the fill hose also has a shut-off system……

The main problem with this is age – the matrix is c. £80 + VAT, so the problem you have is whether it’s worth investing significant sums into an older appliance. After all, if it goes wrong in 6 months time, you risk it turning into the “old car trap”.

    HTH,
    Regards,
    Penguin45.

Can I simply clean out the fill matrix. Indeed what is the fill matrix? I don’t understand much but I get the impression that the inlet valve allows water to flow in through a single hose. Then after a set time if the sensor/pressure switch isn’t happy with the result I get the A5 message.

So if I just dismantle all the bits connected to the inlet vale and clean and reassemble them, is this likely to solve the problem? By which I mean all the flexible tubes leading from the valve to the interior of the machine.

However, It sounds rather more complicated if there are two feedback systems limiting the flow of fill water.

I do have the time and inclination to reduce the whole thing to a pile of parts if that is what is necessary to clean and rejuvenate. However if that is not a likely solution then I am happy to accept the demise of the beast.

    Thanks again,

    Henry

The fill matrix is located under the left hand side panel of the machine. A visual inspection usually reveals black deposits coating the lower section – these cause partial blockages and divert water into the valve shut-off system. It is almost impossible to flush out the matrix – people have removed them and used garden hoses, shower heads and even jet washers that I know of! If you have the patience, feel free……… Also, the transfer tubes under the machine will need to be cleaned out.

Power off, of course and good luck.

I’ve just put a similar comment on another A5 sufferer.

I finally called the service engineer who cleaned out the crud and it works again. But maybe for only so long, since there’s a second “reservoir” that is almost impossible to get at.

So, I’ve now got a fairly powerful de-crud cleaner that should keep the problem at bay.

Update and a couple of questions:

I have removed the salt reservoir and can see the fill matrix which appears translucent and clean in all the waterways I can see.
However the chamber next to the salt reservoir shows black top and bottom and the inside seems coated with an orangey-brown colour deposit.
    Is this significant?
What is this bit for? (Some sort of filter?)
Could it be the cause of the fill problem?

Thanks for the advice so far.

    Henry
