We finally bought a new KGN34NW3AG frost free fridge freezer to replace ancient Bosch KGU3201.

The new Bosch seems to be working and it is quieter than the old KGU3201.

However, when the compressor on the new KGN34NW3AG starts, there is a noticeable ‘Buzz’ which lasts about a second, which immediately precedes the usual noises (compressor hum, fan noise etc) from the appliance when it is operating normally. I’m guessing this may have something to do with the ‘start device’ for the compressor ?

My question is, can anyone tell me if this brief ‘buzz’ is normal for current generation of Bosch fridge freezers ?

    Tnx in advance

KGN34NW3AG appears to be fitted with a TG8112Y compressor made by Jiaxipera.

The loud buzz sounds like it is coming from the compressor to me. I’m no expert, but after studying the following video which explains how a single phase induction motor works, I think may be the compressor is not starting properly?

The Bosch starting device 12010592 has an awful lot of terminals on it.

    I think I’ll have to speak to Bosch/Currys 🙁

Just an update. Bosch engineer confirmed it shouldn’t buzz for a second when the compressor starts, and he thought it is likely to be the compressor. Next step is to arrange for the new appliance to be replaced/exchanged by the retailer.

Received replacement appliance today. Unfortunately, it makes the same buzz, may be a bit longer in duration 🙁

The Bosch FD 9901 batch number (equates to Jan 2019 production date according to google) is the same on both ratings plates.

The Jiaxipera compressor barcode/serial number is 21 digits long. The final 11 digits are totally different between both compressors. I think the last six digits ‘may be’ a YYMMDD date code. If I’m right, there may be a 4+ week difference in production dates Sep’19 vs Oct’19.

Siemens engineer examined the replacement appliance. He put the replacement appliance into some sort of diagnostics mode. It passed the tests. There was no BUZZ when compressor was stopped & started a couple of times.

It would perhaps seem the buzz only occurs when the compressor has been off for a longer duration such as 25+ minutes in normal operation.

Audio recordings and other info emailed to the factory.

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but I wondered whether you ever had a resolution for this issue? I’ve just bought a Bosch fridge freezer, and noticed it makes a loud noise for a second when the compressor starts. Assuming you still receive notifications from this site, any information would be greatly appreciated.

Not a Bosch expert, but the short buzz maybe the solenoid valve energizing, if it has one fitted of course, most frost free fridge/freezer have them to control refrigerant gas flow to either section when cooling or freezing is required in that section with a single compressor.
