    10 months ago I replaced a door seal on a Siemens Washer/Dryer.
The original door seal had gone very soft causing it to leak between the and the customer admitted to using creams to treat a skin condition which we felt was the likely cause of the premature deterioration.

Now the door seal has developed the same problem.
I know petroleum based products can cause the rubber composition to break down but the customer says he uses coconut oil on his skin so I wondered if this would also have a detrimental effect on the door seal?

The machine model number is WKI4D320GB/5 and as a as I can tell BSH do not do a grease resistant door seal for this machine.

I seem to remember Hoover supplying a special boot for oil type situations. Cant see anything in the spares list, might be worth an ask

its called grease resistant. you need to find out if there is one for this model but its more expensive

    Thanks Dave,

When I replaced it originally I checked with BSH but they couldn’t find a grease resistant alternative. I have checked their parts list against this machine and only the stndard version is listed.

I know petroleum based products will cause a problem but wondered if coconut oil would do the same?

It’s great when this happens, got a couple at hairdressers where they keep failing after due to all the caustic chemicals that go into the womens hair.

They understand its there fault and are happy to pay full price every 6 months.

I’ve spoken to the customers wife since, she said her husband is still using the same creams as before.
When I fitted the first one I warned them the door seal could not be guaranteed if the same thing happens.
Again I have explained the same will apply this time.
