I have a hotpoint AQ9F492 I (UK)/V which popped up very occasionally with an F5 fault, if i ran the drain off, it would clear. However, beginning of this week it shutdown completely on F5. I turned the machine on its back and took apart the drain tubing under the drum and cleared all the “debris” from around the float. and inside the pipes. pumps checked and clear. I put it back together and ran the drain off setting to check the pump, pump runs fine. one i started a cycle again it shut down once more on F5. I checked the pressure switch by sucking and blowing on the diaphragm, and which point the fault would clear only when i got a positive solenoid click(not often). but running a cycle F5 would always return.
I went to my local spares specialist and he ordered e a new switch via the model number, however the switch which arrived was incorrect, it came with a 3 wire harness where mines a 5,i thought it maybe just a updated switch fromt= the manufacturer but this new harness has a plug on the end which cannot locate into the pcb, it has a notch in it, and the old harness is not compatible with the new switch.
Whenever i google a part for this model it shows a 3 cable harness with the switch?
Ive tried to free off the old switch now, and when running a cycle i notice it does not fill with water at the beginning, then F5’s about 5 mins into cycle, but theirs no water in the drum to begin with? Any Ideas?
Wifes moaning now, having to take the washing down to the local stream to hand clean it 😉
ChrisIf you go onto Hotpoints uk spares proper site ( as opposed to other sites that give the impression they are Hotpoint!! ) and type in your model number a picture of a linear pressure switch and cable as a kit crops up . The website part reference number is J00287637 which is not the proper part number ( they begin with C00…..this is done to avoid people from X referencing, mostly prices and pattern part alternatives ) £18.90 plus 3 quid postage which is certainly worth a shot . Do not blow into a linear pressure switch! The old styled mechanical switched ones you could blow into as many times as you wanted, alas, not with this modern stuff.
Thanks for the advice, I’ve ordered it! Im an Airconditioning engineer by trade, I have to blow pretty hard into some of our pressure switches, so to be honest, i didn’t hold back!
But I`d have a good look at the picture before you consider buying it just in case you end up with the same as you already have!! If in doubt have your model number, serial number, and chassis number handy in case you have to phone them up to double check. Although I think there is only one version of your model but I`m well out of date on this stuff.
I gave my model and serial and explained an after market supplier gave me a incorrect replacement part. They did tell me it’s been superseded on the phone, but couldnt give me much more detail. I’ll have a look at the connnector before I open it, so I can return it if it’s incorrect!

Yeah, that looks the wrong one, the plug has a notch / line in it which will stop it locating into the pcb.
well according to the model above and Hotpoints tech info that is the correct part
if you think you have fixed the old switch try a recalibrate
turn machine off
put about 1 litre of water in the machine by hand
turn machine on and select the drain cycle.
run the cycle and the machine should then learn where empty isif all this fails suggest you contact hot point for answers as it maybe an overlap on models and part used which is not documented
