I know it’s a stupid mistake, but I accidentally put detergent in the dishwasher salt compartment of my new Neff (less than a week old), because the packets looked so alike. Unfortunately I didn’t realise the error until after I had switched it on. Although I removed the detergent with a spoon and by sucking it out with a syringe, now when I switch on the machine I just get a low pitched buzzing as though no water is entering it. Does anyone know whether this means a pipe is blocked by the detergent and is there anything useful I could do before having to call in an engineer? Thanks very much for your help.

It has probably overflowed into the base pan (all those bubbles!)
The good news is it has probably done very little damage, but you will need an engineer to sort it out for you.
The bad news is this isn’t covered by the guarantee so you may well have to pay for the work, although in my experience this could be up to the particular engineer who comes to do the work (i.e. did you offer coffee/cake, did he get a kiss from the wife that morning etc lol)
