ParticipantHi Folks, I have a customer with a FDYF2100 Hotpoint Dishwasher, the appliance fills for 90 seconds (just above the salt cap) and then aborts the programme pumps all the water and comes up with a A-5 error code. I have tried a circulation pump but still exactly the same. I have checked the element, My thoughts is that the control module is at fault. Has anybody else come across this fault and knows the answer ?? Best Regards Neil

ParticipantDid you sort this neil or was it scraped I have the same but A5 relates to a drain fault so I`m thinking pressure switch or flow meter

Moderatorafter google searches i agree it sounds like a pressure sw fault
unit takes in 2.5 litres. if its not detected it faults out

ParticipantI had a similar machine recently that was doing the same thing where I found out the hard way what the issue was, it turned out that there was food/detritus in the air trap that was floating up and blocking off the air to the pressure switch when it filled with water, when I tried blowing through it while the machine was empty it was clear but when I put a load of water in the sump and forced air quickly back through the chamber a load of crud came out into the water.
For those of you wondering how I came to this conclusion it was after changing the module with no success (expensive mistake) that I got into a more technical diagnostic method as in the steps below:
1. I used the frequency function on my meter to find out how fast the inlet turbine was spinning (11 Hertz in my case)
2. I found in one of the service manuals that it is 217 pulses per litre of water from the turbine.
3. The manual states that the pressure switch should have activated by 2.5 Litres of water (static fill) after which it goes to dynamic fill (wash pump on) and continues to fill to 4 Litres.
4. Using this info I calculated the following:
2.5 Litres x 217 Pulses = 542.5 Static Fill Pulses
542.5 Static Fill Pulses / 11 Hertz = 49.3 Seconds for static fill
5. I had about 90 Seconds of static fill before it would error out which equated to 4.6 Litres of water. When it used the meter to monitor the pressure switch and manually filled the machine I found that it took about 3.5 Litres to get it to activate due to the crud in the pressure chamber.
Hope that helps
