ParticipantHi
Been away for a while 🙂
So, I bought this John Lewis heatpump dryer three years ago, I know – I did read the write ups but thought id take a punt on some new tech at the time., anyway here is the problem…John Lewis Heat pump dryer, JLTDH18 prod-916 097 425 00.
Recently it is taking 2-3 cycles (up to 6 hours) for a standard load.
Load gets hot but remains damp, as if not condensing.
Evaporator behind filters looks a bit dusty/fluffy – anyone know how deep the evaporator unit it & can it be accessed to clean out properly? Also, one occasion showed an E60 code, machine continued to run whilst displaying code, I cannot find a list of fault codes for this model but some searches say E60 is unbalanced door???? or heat pump fault
Any help appreciated

ParticipantOK, so, the problem goes on……..
When i dug out the paperwork it was actually one week inside John Lewis’ three year guarantee, so called them up and they gave an agents details to me.
Called their agent, they sent a guy round who spent a decent amount of time trying to find something wrong, now to me it is getting hot but not condensing, as all filters are clear I am thinking the evaporator may be restricting air flow, or compressor not dropping the air temp low enough to condense – it does look a bit fluffy in there and no way to clean it, so in the end he scrubbed the filters and said see how it goes, that was July 4th
Tried next day, still same, two full programmes and still coming out damp, musty and hot, called them up again, they said they would get a whole new base plate – compressor complete and fit, so, on 16th July they came and changed the base plate -two hour job
Tied the next night and the compressor sounds horrendous, like a rattling old fridge compressor with no gas, struggling to cool, coupled with that there is a distinct burning smell from the compressor area and it is pumping out some serious heat from the compressor fan
Called them again yesterday – 18th – to be told they cant come back, i now have to call via electrolux, have now spent over 2 hours over 2 days on hold to electrolux, after 30 minutes on hold earlier i was prompted to ‘press 1 to request a call back’ nice idea, but pressing 1 plays a message to say their mailbox is full and no new messages can be left
So, whats happened at electrolux? and what have they done to my dryer????

ParticipantSpeak to John Lewis and ask them to sort it. It is John Lewis’s guarantee and they need to honour it.

ParticipantIt would good to hear from a engineer who works on heat pump dryers, to let us know some of the faults we can check.
we have tried to avoid those up to now.January 15, 2020 at 10:44 pm #462295stratfordgirl
ParticipantThe heat exchanger for cooling tends to get blocked up with fluff after 2-3 years. The heat exchanger washing systems used by some (eg Bosch, LG) don’t seem effective, and on those machines, a complete drum-out stripdown is needed to access the heat exchanger. Other brands, such as Hotpoint, Electrolux, and Hoover, are more accessible.
ther than that, you’ll come across all the usual faults, such as belts, tensioners, motor capacitors, fans, etc, but there’s not usually a heater to worry about. Given the extra kit in the base, access to components tends to be more time consuming. Properly testing the heat pump system isn’t that feasible during a typical call-out, given the time these dryers take to warm up.
Given what I have seen of these machines so far, I won’t be investing in one myself any time soon.
