ParticipantHi,
Has the above dvd ran out of time? I can no longer use mine. It has been ok until recently.
Every time I try to open it a windows popup blocker appears which never used to. Probably came with an auto update. If I then allow the download it asks me to save or cancel and describes possible corruption problems or unsupported file type (.vbd).
If I click save, it saves to Prog folder but cannot be opened because it is unsupported.
The popup blocker won`t turn off either no matter what I do according to its directions. I have restarted computer to see if this makes a difference.
Frustrated 😡

Mine’s done the same today 🙁
It happens when something new is installed, try reinstalling it Laurence, it should be OK then 😉

TDS Offline has been updated for several months, you should now be using DVD UK 2005.
As always latest copy available from Distriparts (at a cost)
Guess the 2004 copy must have a time limit which has now run out.

You know, I’ve kept my mouth shut on this for a long time but really, we’re all mad with this nonsense.
We are expected to spend money with these companies, put food on their table and then, on top of that, we’re expected to pay for the privilege of looking up the goods to do it as well! Insane, just totally insane.
I wonder what would happen to Littlewoods or Argos if they started charging for their catalogues for customer to buy goods?

Hooray! Well said that man…..
I suspect it’s just the latest form of protectionism that has plagued all trade for time immemorable. Anything that turns a buck………

Nope, but I also didn’t notice until now the version Laurence has, mine is the 2005 version which also borked yesterday at home.
I’ll take my work copy home tonight and try it.
There is no way around the time lock as far as I am aware.

That’s very true of the Indesit ‘Partfinder’ CD but not so the ‘TDS Offline’. As we discussed at Sibson last time, there are “terms and conditions” attached to the supply of all CD’s and DVD’s containing technical information. Licenses need be applied and adhered to for the exclusive benefit of trade users. Therefore some modest charge has to be applied and a time-out factor built in to enable much needed updates adding.
Slag off Indesit by all means, not TDS. God ‘elp us if they suddenly issued them out free in Argos or Comet with every new washing machine they sold!
(That reminds me I must save up for my new copy :rotl: )

ParticipantAnyone got an “expired” disc they’d like to donate to science?
It’s amazing the variance there can be in the supply of technical info- look at the motor trade, many manufacturers won’t release *anything* yet Suzuki for example will sell you (over the counter, retail) a cd containing factory service info inc. diagnostics and wiring diagrams for not much more than the price of a haynes book…

I think the point is that we are having to buy information to enable us to buy parts to then repair a product . I take the point about licenses etc but
after all if they front loaded the costs of licensing and production costs on to the parts we would be none the wiser ,they then supply the info free, voila they cover there costs we dont feel ripped off and we are all happyIf the catalogue companies charged you for the privilige of having their catalogues think what it would do to there sales .
surely Argos et al must factor in there catalogue costs somewhere must’nt they ?

Point taken Martin, but then what did we all do before the days of CD ROMs or DVDs? Why we called up our local distributor or agent and got the information required, free gratis as we were spending money with them.
Now we have a host of these discs from many companies costing us hundreds of pounds a year, for what? The odd occasion where a wiring diagram is required or we need to order a part.
I do accept that TDS is better than most, but it still isn’t all the information, there’s a load of it missing from there (from what I’ve been told as I don’t use it) like how to reprogram certain machines. And even at that we go out, repair the product using spares bought off the back of that information. But I wasn’t having a dig at TDS in particular, just this nonsense of having to buy these discs to spend money with these companies, it’s insanity.
Even as agents we have to buy some of them, actually pay for them to carry out work under warranty on behalf of the manufacturer. So we do a job for them and they charge us for the privilege… nice eh?
But then I guess that if you have a couple of hundred people paying £100 or so a year for a disc or two that nicely offsets a big chunk of the costs involved in making it easier for those that buy it to spend more with you.
Nice work, wish I could dupe people like that.

I think (Ken) you need to cast your eye on the TDS disc to appreciate its invaluable, comprehensive information (including re-programming etc) that is available to all in the trade. Without such information being available in this way Electrolux/Zanussi would have struggled to control the ‘service’ side of their business here in the UK. So in spite of it’s modest cost and the constant need to up-date, it’s regarded by all as the way forward.
Sadly, that has not yet dawned on the other major player in this business (a.k.a. Indesit) who believes it can control the technical side of the business single handedly within its own infrastructure. Anyone within that organisation that has access to these many pages of UKW will quickly realise just as a certain Jack Swigert said to Ground Control in Houston on April 13th aboard Apollo 13….”Houston, we’ve had a problem here!”
Each year April 13th comes around I wonder if ‘Ground Control’ Milano (and or Peterborough) will realise that their oxygen tank has also ‘blown’ but sadly in their case they haven’t produced a CD Rom to be able to deal with it…………..!! 🙄

Identiffier issue 7 was released about a month ago so you should be OK for a while Paul.
