I have a small chest freezer from Whirlpool (afg512) which has the red warning light on costantly starts up but then clicks off almost immediately. Is it the thermostat? Can’t decide whether to attempt to fit a universal thermostat that I have seen online or cut my losses.

If it starts up then clicks straight off, it won’t be the thermostat I’m afraid.

Either compressor failure (the most likely) or the compressor star device.

Cut your losses on this one to be honest as compressor replacement would be more than the unit cost to buy.

Thanks for that. Unfortunatley funds are tight but I would really like to upgrade to a tall upright. I have seen a beko for £197. Would this be worth considering or should I stick with a small chest?

Chest freezers on the whole are more reliable to be honest, I certainly wouldn’t entertain a Beko (personal opinion of course ;))
