ModeratorOn the subject of fires. heard today the hairdressers shop 2 door from me went on fire. the fire was picked up by the fire alarms in the property next door so you can imagine it was well alight by the time it was found. Place has been gutted inside but you cant tell from the front

KeymasterIt’s an easy target. Prove it. One way or another.
Most of the evidence, such as there might be, is charred, burnt and probably mostly unrecognisable so fathoming the actual cause, most likely close to impossible so it becomes the best guess.
It’s easy to say the “whatever appliance” was the cause. But, ever so hard to prove it to be so.
Before anyone has a pop (feel free, I’m game ;)) proving it so through empirical evidence and fact is completely different to, “it is because I say so” or whatever.

K.In this case its a shop so on the appliance side, no oven, hob, washing machine or dryer.
shop was closed so all other appliances would be off so choices as to the cause are limited even down to combustible material such as carpets and curtainsstill hard to prove I am sure and when it did start some of the chemicals used are highly flammable

ParticipantThis morning a āspokespersonā from Whirlpool was reported to have said (quote) āOur engineers are working flat out on a simple modification to these trailers to ensure greater fire prevention measures are installed. Meanwhile advising their owners that they are perfectly safe to operateā.
