When selecting main oven temperature, I noticed a burning electrical smell. Took off top and found that blue wired sleeve connector going into the temperature selector switch was melted. Clearly, I need to replace the thermostat switch and phials etc, and will need to cut and recrimp the blue wires into a new connector sleeve. But is this just a faulty thermostat switch or something more serious elsewhere? Oven selector switch looks ok. Some blackening of the oven overheat cut-off sensor power leads, but think this is because close to the exit / entry point of thermostat wire into oven rather than overheating themselves (i.e. no sign of obvious damage.).
Advice?

Moderatorits not unheard of so don’t worry
just make sure you cut back to clean wire otherwise any resistance in the crimp will make it get hot and burn out

Very helpful and especially for the advice on crimping.
I’m hoping there will be a bit of ‘give’ in the blue wires to allow me to cut and replace the crimp without replacing the wires completely. Can I fit a universal type crimp connector such as this one: https://shop.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/3051182-blue-faston-connector
Or do I need something particular? (Forgot to check at weekend when oven was dismantled and won’t be able to check before weekend)Anything else I need to be aware of?

The original connectors had a insulation sleeve as per the photo (I’ve turned the black connector upside down so I could see what connector is needed). You can see the melted sleeve on the blue. Do I need to replace the sleeve? Which is why I was thinking of using the fully insulated connector.
Note: 2 wires going into the connector – presumably the connector crimp can handle that.
Thanks for all your help so far.

Moderatorit can be tight getting 2 cables in as the terms are only designed for 1. you will have to oval the end a bit before you crimp to get the wires insulation to enter the cover
or if you search piggyback terminal and if there is room you can do it that way as it gives you an extra spade for the 2nd wireDave

ParticipantAh… thanks. Good idea – at least to have in back pocket. I think there will be enough room as connector is on top and there is room above.
Many thanks -
