I have a problem with a Hotpoint Aquarius TVFS73 Tumble Dryer. Sometimes there is no heat being generated and sometimes it is just warm. I have checked the elements and thermostats with a multi meter and all have continuity. There is a Thermistor located near the two thermostats and this is open circuit with no continuity, is this likely to be the problem?

It’s very likely that the thermistor is not open circuit at all. It has a much higher resistance than a basic thermostat so a simple circuit test would show as open circuit. A faulty thermistor should also show an error code.

I connected the thermistor to a multi meter for a ohms test which confirmed that thermistor is open circuit, also found that one of the thermostats had tripped since my previous test. If a thermistor is faulty could this cause the thermostat to trip with the result of no heat? I dont think the Aquarius model displays error codes?

the thermostat will only trip is there is too much heat

when you measured the thermistor did you use a higher range. the range you need to use must be at least 100,000 ohms

In over 45 years in the trade I don’t think I ever encountered an open circuit thermistor tbh.

Yes, I tried the 20k, 200k and 2M range all open circuit

you would need to check as there is more then one model of your dryer with the same model number but different commercial codes

but one I looked up at random uses this thermistor
