ParticipantHello Forum,
I have a WT21000GB/01 siemens, a fairly basic model but with little use.The drum turns and air blows but heat is not getting above about 25 degrees or so on either of its two heat settings.
The heater elements read about 25 Ohms, so these seem ok.
I measured the thermostat and it reads less than 1 ohm, but that was at room temperature. Can it still be a faulty stat, tripping when it gets slightly warm?
Is it a mad idea to short the stat out just for a short test? see it the machine heats?
Thanks

Moderatorthis dryer is actually made by White knight crosslee in Yorkshire so it makes parts cheap and easy
there is a stat on the exhaust of the dryer. if you lay dryer on its face and take lower back off the stat it just to the right of the motor at the front

I would change that one and see how it goes

ParticipantYes I saw that one, just to the right of the motor.
I must say, it’s a difficult machine to dismantle, the drum is attached to the upper back-plate, which in turn is keeping the lower plate in place..
I has a bit of a struggle to get access, but got there eventually. Thanks for the advice and link, I shall order one up tonight.

Moderatorleave upper plate on. remove screws from lower plate and the bottom 2 only from the top plate
lower plate slides up then offreally easy when you look at it
its one of the easiest dryers to work on, you should see the restDave

ParticipantGreat stuff Dave, you seem to know this one well!
I shall do that when the part arrives, it will save me a lot of time.PS. the machine also is making a squeak sound when the drum is turning.
When I have it open next time, is there something I should grease or oil?
Many thanks.Ray

Moderatorthere is nothing really to oil as all bearings are plastic

Moderator🙂 I well remember going to a Bosch tumble dryer (same as Siemens) some years ago. A large house and kitchen with washer, dishwasher, oven and fridge all also Bosch appliances. The lady of the house rather haughtily informed me that she only buys German equipment as it is the best there is. The look on her face when I informed her that her ‘Bosch’ dryer was made just up the road in Huddersfield by Crosslee,..priceless.:D

ParticipantSuccess !.
the replacement thermostat fixed it.Thanks a million Dave & co.
This machine has had daily use since 1999 and this was the first fault… Not too shabby for unit made in Huddersfield.
Quite a low MTBF. -
