Hotpoint Mistral FF92p
ParticipantMy Hotpoint Mistral Fast Freeze Fridge-Freezer has an E8 error, indicating a problem with the thermistor. Most people who have this error who I’ve come across online tend to find that their freezer is working, but the thermistor which controls the fan pumping cold air into the fridge is at fault, hence their fridge is at room temperature. However, my Fridge is working perfectly well, maintaining a temperature of around 4 degrees C. I tried defrosting and having a look at the green and yellow thermistors at the rear of the freezer, behind the panel, and there was no issue visible. Having allowed the unit to return to room temperature I put it back on, and all seems to work fine, with both the fridge and freezer temperature gauges indicating accurate temperatures near to room temperature. However, within a short amount of time the unit readout returns to E8, with the fridge temperature still accurate, but the freezer only showing E8. Bit of a conundrum. My next step would be to attempt to check the two thermistors in the freezer with a resistance meter. Anyone know the kinds of readings I should be getting from them in order to ascertain whether they are still functional – can’t find a temperature/resistance chart. Any advice most welcome.

ModeratorA model number would help us to know which unit your are referring too

ParticipantThis is the ff72p (not the ff92p as I first thought)

Moderatorlooked at my tech access but that unit is too old but some other members may have some historic info
you cannot tell by looking at a thermistor only by knowing its resistance reading for a given temperature
If you do suspect the thermistor then for £10 plus p&p there is a compatible one in the shop

ParticipantThanks. There are two thermistors in the back of the freezer, one with a yellow connector (the one linked for sale) and one with a green connector. I’m not sure which one the error refers to – E8 means ‘Evaporator Thermistor short circuit’. However, most people who have this error find that their freezer is working fine, but not blowing cold air into the fridge. If anyone’s had experience of what I’m describing I would be interested to hear about it. As both the fridge and freezer are functioning I could just let it be, but as the freezer doesn’t seem to be able to ascertain its own temperature it means it might just be on maximum freeze constantly. Also would be useful if anyone knows the resistance levels these thermistors should be at (I’m going to measure them at room temp and with cups of cold/warm water). Cheers

Moderatorif the thermistor is controlling the fridge I would expect it to be in the fridge. It cannot detect the fridge temperature in the freezer
also if the fault means its short circuit a multimeter will answer your problem

ParticipantAs I say it’s the freezer thermistor which the error code indicates – the fridge is working fine and the fridge temperature is at its normal level. It’s the freezer which doesn’t give a temperature readout once it drops below room temperature, but instead get the error code E8. Anyway I tested the two freezer thermistors, both the green and the yellow and they seem to work fine – although I don’t have the exact values, the resistance varies in exposure to room temperature, warm water and a working freezer within a reasonable range, and give exactly the same values as each other. Anyone who’s had this E8 code with an otherwise functional fridge freezer, would be interested to hear what it might be. Cheers

ParticipantDid you ever get to the bottom of this fault……I have a fully functional fridge/freezer no error codes but the compressor is running most of the day….

Moderatoris it getting to temp ?
have you checked both fridge and freezer temperature
