I have a Samsung Frost Free RL36SBMS fridge freezer which is just coming to the end of its 12 month warranty.
For a while now it’s been making some very loud cracking noises (a bit like ice breaking) along with a buzzing noise and just recently a very feint ticking noise (which accompanies the buzzing).
I have called the retailer service department who have been out to look at it but as it is an intermittent problem they have not heard the noises and say there is nothing they can do.
Are these noises normal and something I will have to learn to live with or do you think they need attention. If so I really need to know quickly so I can get it sorted out under warranty.
The noise is ice breaking. It’s caused during the defrost cycle, a heater is used to remove the ice build up.
Expansion and contraction will also contribute to the noises during this process so I would say it’s quite normal, although not hearing it I can’t be certain.
In theory at least, the noise should occur at roughly the same intervals as the defrost cycle is timed electronically.
