ParticipantHi.
I tried to upload a photo for this post, but it says the quota left for this form to upload photos is only 19kbs. Which is not enough for you to see the photo i want to upload. Is there anyway around this?
And when will the quota be enough again for me to upload my photo. As it’s vital to upload the photo with this post..Anyway here is my original post to the website.
” Hi. I watched one of your videos yesterday showing how to replace a oven element.I have a an old Electrolux gas hob fan assisted oven. I think the element has gone, as the oven doesn’t get hot any more. And i can still hear the motor still working.
I want to buy the right spare part from you. But i don’t know what the part number is yet until i take the old element out?
It’s an old oven and i don’t know the model of it.
My question is at this point i need advice, important advice as to which trip switches that i need to turn the power off, before i start to remove the oven back plate.
The Electrical trip switches and fuse box we have is 50 years old.
I’ve taken a photo of it all, for you to see. Would you be able to have a look at it, and tell me for sure which switches that i need to turn off please, I really don’t want to electrocute myself before i do the job.
Kind Regards

Moderatorthat’s a lot of questions on one post
1 photo host the photo on another site then post a public link. new members have restrictions on size because computer data cost money so to limit the cost we have to have this limit. If needed I can add the photo from the link to the post but if everyone posted large pics then the cost of running this site would increase
2 taking the element out wont give you the part number. giving us the model number, pnc and serial number and we can look it up
3 fuses we cannot tell which fuses are the correct ones without testing. since the fan of the oven still works, turn the oven on and pull fuses till it stops

we have not killed anyone in the last hour and we would like to keep it that way

ParticipantTotally agree with Dave, don’t think we’ve ever killed anyone yet . If your this unsure then maybe an idea to call a local repair company, especially if your Electrical system is that old. Alternatively you could do as Dave suggests but instead of pulling fuses to isolate, turn off the main switch or switches.

Also please be aware that before replacing the Element, unless it has physically blown or broken then there won’t be any way to tell it’s faulty without using a Multimeter to test it. Just throwing parts at it on the off chance is an expensive way to go about things.

ParticipantHi. It’s a real shame still you can’t see the new google link with the picture of the circuit board.
Yes i read your p.m this morning, thanks for replying back soon. I didn’t fully understand all of what you said about what to do. I forgot about the wall oven switch by the oven on the wall. Shall i also flip the main switch on the circuit board under the stairs for all the electrical downstairs?
Yes i did read about a good way to check if an electrical item has blown is by testing it with a multi metre. My dad used to do that. My dad passed away this year, but i will look into how to use it, as his is still here.
I’m trying to do jobs myself, now my dad has gone, and i’m doing pretty well so far. But this would be my biggest job, as i’ve not done anything as big as this before. But i want to do it right. I want to learn to do it, rather than paying someone in to do it for me. Only at the last straw will i get someone in to do the job.

ParticipantHi Becky: My condolences on the passing of your dad, let’s try and get you through this & fix your cooker. As it’s such an old Electrical system, then yes It would be better to turn off the main switch on the fusebox as well. It will give you an added level of safety. You could try uploading your pictures to photo bucket & post a link to that, that apparently works quite well.

ParticipantI was thinking, do you have dropbox? Or if not how if you emailed me your email address, incase you didn’t want to give out on this forum. And i could send you over the photo that way? That seems the easiest way to do it. What do you think?
