    Hello, my first post here

I have the above tumble dryer, which has started turning itself off long before the drying has finished. When it does this it goes completely dead – all the lights are off and it cannot be turned on again. Some hours later I can start it again, but it doesn’t go for very long and the whole thing repeats. The machine also sounds a bit creaky even though it’s not overloaded

So I took the back off and tried drying a single towel. It starts turning and the heating element glows orange for about 5 or 6 seconds. Then there’s a click and the drum stops and the element goes off. Then the drum starts up again as it should clockwise/anti-clockwise, but without any heat. This time the machine stopped before the towel was dry, but the lights did not go out

I tried this several more times with the same outcome each time

Thanks in advance for any insights

    Cheers

if you run the element unenclosed it will overheat

the way you describe this it sounds like the power turns off to the dryer

have you tried another socket ?

Hi Dave – thanks very much for your advice

I put the back cover on again and am running the dryer from another socket via an extension. So far so good. I am still puzzled by a few things though:

    1) The washing machine and tumble dryer have both been running fine from the double socket, both separately and together, for years without issue

    2) The washing machine is still working fine from this socket

    3) When the tumble dryer went dead/lights out, I could return later and start it again without doing anything ie no blown fuses in the plug, no tripping in the fuse box and the washing machine unaffected

Very grateful for your help, the washing has been piling up with this weather

    I may be back

    Cheers
