    Similar problem to JEByrnes.

Fridge/freezer switched off for defrost/clean about a month ago. Came with flat, so may be a few years old. Bulb went, replaced OK.

Last week, it started to get warm in fridge compartment. Thermostat still works as it as could switch off compressor. Freezer stayed frozen. Vanes at back not obstructed and warm. Compressor warm/hot.

Then steadily got worse. Fridge now very warm, warmer than outside, freezer cool but not frozen, compressor running almost continuously.

No sign of leaks at back. Knives never used to defrost.

I’m eating all the food as fast as poss.

If this was a gas/paraffin fridge, I’d switch off and turn upside down for a couple of days, but its not!

    Any recommendations? TIA, Chris

It sounds like a system failure (compressor or gas leak) but the model number will be required to help further please.

    Re: Whirlpool Fridge freezer

As requested, the Whirlpool details are:
    Class N
    ART 501/G/WP
    8564500 15000
    50 9545 015446
    Freezer capacity 42l
    Fridge capacity 145l

Only extra info is freezer reverted to frozen over week-end, perhaps because it was cooler outside.

OK, it’s just a standard unit then, if the compressor is still running almost non-stop and the fridge never gets cold then it’s system failure I’m afraid.

    Thanks.
I’ll assume that is also shorthand for beyond economic repair.
