ParticipantI have tested the temperatures of fridge and freezer using a fridge thermometer – top of the fridge was 10 degrees, bottom of the fridge often freezes, and freezer is -35 degrees which is way too cold (and means ice cream is always rock hard!)
Having read online it sounds like a fan should circulate air to even out the temperature – if there is such a fan, I can’t work out where it is / how to access it. Can anyone help please?December 14, 2019 at 10:29 pm #465177electrofix
Moderatorcant find the exact same model but the one I found has no fan
can you check the model and post the rest of the numbers on the label which will narrow it down to one unit

ParticipantThanks Dave – The number given is 3901149 0121 0090. I’ve attached a photo of the label

Moderatorwell that one is not coming up on the tech site at all despite putting the commercial code is so am a bit lost
How old is this unit ?
also from the label it looks like a 2 star freezer which should run around -12 and only meant for storing frozen foods for up to a month

ParticipantThat’s strange – I’m not sure exactly how old it is, I’d guess 10-15 years. I’ve attached a couple more photos if these are helpful? Interesting, it’s certainly running a lot colder than -12 at the moment!

Moderatorwell that definitely a 4 star freezer so will run around -18 but it is so old that the tech site no longer lists it
its likely with this older model that the thermostat operates from the fridge so if you turn the knob down what happens ?

ParticipantAh ok. Changing the thermostat settings doesn’t seem to make a lot of difference, I’ve had it on the min and max settings and either way the freezer is too cold and top of the fridge too warm.

Moderatornot sure on your unit which system it uses
early systems use a hydraulic thermostat late ones use a board and sensor
if its early then there may be a stat to replace it
if its later then a board problem may be fixable but sensors are foamed in during manufacture so impossible to changeyou would need to look behind the knob and see what you have

ParticipantAh ok will have a look. Doesn’t the fact that the freezer is too cold but the fridge too warm indicate that it’s not a thermostat problem though? As as I understand it there isn’t independent cooling for the fridge and freezer?

Moderatorthat’s the bit that hard to get my head round, the gas is used up in the freezer until it gets cold and then unused gas cools the fridge till the stat turns it off
so your scenario sounds strange
maybe a member who has done more fridges can shed more light on it as its not my area of expertise
