I’ve got an Ariston 1600 WD just stopped working and would not light up or switch on. Then all of a suddent it did light up but when I pressed the start button there was a pop like something had blown at the top back of the machine. so I’ve tried changing the mains filter with the power cord, but just the same no lights nothing.
Be grateful for any advice and help with this as whilst its quite an old machine its hardly been used.
ThanksHave you got the full model number, that way we can tell if it is an original Ariston or an Indesit in a dress. If you have changed the mains filter and lead and it is an Indesit then it’s very likely the main control module has blown.
Thanks for your message. The only model or serial number is on the front panel and reads ‘A1600WD’ It also has the Ariston name and logo on the front. I bought it in Currys a while ago and believed it was a genuine Ariston though maybe i was wrong. Although I have replaced the mains filter, the one I’ve fitted was supplied to me as a secondhand part, so to be honest I cannot be sure it is serviceable, I’ve got a multimeter but not sure how to check whether the mains filter is working or not. I would be really grateful for your further help with this thanks again.
There should be a rating plate near either the door opening, the hinge or on the back. If it is less than 15 years old it will almost certainly be an Indesit made machine. The main control module is usually down at the bottom rear side, directly under the mains filter you changed. If you are going to examine that for signs of damage leave the machine unplugged for 5 to 10 minutes in case you have a three phase motor control module. Due to the cost and the need to program these modules I would suggest the machine is BER if it has failed.
Not the motor, the inverter module used with the three phase motors can give you a nasty kick if you don’t allow them to discharge. Not all machines have a three phase motor though
There’s a risk of Electric shock from all motor drive boards until the capacitors have lost their charge. If your going to remove the board, please ensure that the machine is unplugged as failure to do so could prove very painful if not fatal.
Thanks I’ve now got the control module out of the machine and noticed that around one of the connector blocks there is some charring the sockets in the block itself look a bit blackened too., but the whole circuit board is otherwise undamaged. I’ve managed to source another control module from the same 1600 washer dryer to put in as a complete unit. However I’m concerned that using the slightly burnt connector block might damage the replacement module the connector block hasn’t melted it just looks sooty where the pin sockets are. What would you recommend please? I can’t seem to find a new wiring loom or a replacement connector block. I am taking the precaution of only working on the machine whilst its unplugged.
1600WD just means it’s a 1600 spin speed washer dryer. You really need to find the full model and serial number to be certain the replacement module will fit or for us to be able to see if we can find any part numbers for the wiring loom.
Thanks for your further help. I’ve looked all over the machine and there is no plate or serial number anywhere its weird. On the back there are a couple of paper strips that have a barcode and some numbers that’s all. Is it worth sharing these with you please? Assuming I’m lucky and the control module that’s coming to me on Friday is good for the machine, what can I do about the charred plug please? I’m no expert but I wondered if the sooty deposits might increase the resistance in the supply to the replacement board and short it out again not sure….Thanks again.
The paper labels do sometimes have the correct model number and serial numbers on them, usually begins with A**** for Ariston badged machines. Leaks from the dryer condenser directly above the module are a common cause of failure. As we cannot see the connections we can’t know just how bad they are but if the machine has failed totally then they must be in a very poor condition and will almost certainly fail quickly and damage any replacement.
