I have a F1403YD5 Combo Washer/Dryer. One day I noticed the clothes were coming out warm but very damp, even after running a 2 hour dry cycle.

    I’ve done the following diagnostics:
-I disassembled the machine and cleaned out the condensing bellows and drying duct.
-Checked the blower motor, working absolutely fine lots of air is being pushed through
-Checked the resistance of the heating element. Result 35OHM (in range as per service manual).
-Checked the thermostat for a closed circuit. Result CLOSED.
-Checked the thermistors for resistance. Result 48kOHM at room temp (in range as per service manual).
-Checked the voltage going to the heating element when dry cycle was running (it was correct, 230VAC)
-Checked the thermostat for closed circuit while dry cycle was running (it was closed)
-Cleaned the terminals for the thermostat and heating element.

The problem is sometimes the machine just doesn’t get hot enough to dry the cloths. Other times it gets very hot and drys very well. I’ve tried different drying modes also i.e. timed dry and iron dry and the results are always intermittent. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. And I can’t seem to reproduce the issue on command.

However, when I had the thermostat out of the machine while diagnosing it, I noticed that it has a bit of a rattle in it when it is shaken around. Is this normal? Should it have some kind of rattling sound? Its hard to get the multimeter probes on the thermostat securely in order to see if shaking it around causes an open circuit. But if i lay it flat on the table and test for continuity, its definitely a closed circuit. Also shows closed circuit when it is installed correctly in the machine. Thermostat part number is 6931FR3108A.

I feel like i’ve tested everything possible, but the machine still isn’t drying clothes with consistent results. For example today after doing more diagnostics and reassembling the machine, I ran a wash/dry load and its heating up tremendously and drying the clothes very well…but tomorrow who knows…

Any advice or help at all would be greatly appreciated.

Did you have any luck? Just read someone else’s post who mentioned a faulty solder joint on the control board caused intermittent heating. Hope you work it out.

Turns out the problem was the water inlet valve assembly. There are 3 valves on the assembly, 2 were testing 4.2kohm, and the other one (which feeds the dryer condensing below) was testing as an open circuit. There was also some visible cracking on the outside of that valve body, which isn’t so easy to see when it’s fitted in the machine. After replacing the assembly, the dryer function works like a charm. It’s about a 40$ usd part and takes maybe 30 min to replace.
