    Hi there,

Looking for a bit of a steer with our Hotpoint VTD65A tumble dryer. I was given this by my sister in law as it would not work, and was not blowing any hot air. There had been an engineer look at it before I got it but I don’t know what part she had changed as she couldn’t remember. The machine hasn’t had a hard life as far as I can tell so hoped I could get it working.

After taking the filter out of the door frame and removing the fluff in it, I took the panel off the back for a look. The two thermostats I found both tested as failed on the multi meter on the continuity setting, so I got a kit to replace them. There was one new thermostat with an orange dot, which I put into the spot occupied with the old thermostat with what looked like an orange dot, and the other thermostat new one (with a blue dot) was swapped out with the old white coloured one (which had no dot on it).

I’ve not sat and drawn out the electrical connections across the heating elements fully. My dad is an electrics man so I could get some help on that score if needed.

After changing the thermostats, I switch it on, and it now has an F-13 fault code. This was not coming up before, as far as I noticed. However, this code is not referenced in the user manual and all references online to this code seem to relate to washer dryers, not tumble dryers.

So, at this stage, what I am looking to confirm is, is F-13 related to a heater sensor issue (it seems to be for washer dryers)? And if it is, is there another temperature sensor somewhere in the dryer that I also need to check over and maybe replace?

I guess finally, are the heating elements just those that are located at the back, mounted on the rear of the back casing with the two thermostats that I have changed?

    Much obliged,
    Ally

F13 is rear thermistor is open or short circuit

looks like you have put a stat where a thermistor should be

Also has it been modified in the recall for fire safety ?

Cheers for coming in Dave. Would seem that you may be right. I’ll reverse the change and confirm if that takes the fault code away. Then it might be back to square 1 to have the thermostats located and swapped.

I did have a look online to see if it was subject to recall after hearing on the news that there are units that are a risk, but the model number was not exactly as mine. I will double check though.

    Much appreciated.

I believe if yours is covered then they are now offering new dryers as a swop

Well I hope you’re right as mine is indeed subject to recall.

Once again, much obliged sir for your advice.

Thanks for posting this. I landed here after experiencing similar problem with same model.

I’ve had a guy who I ride bikes with come over to look at it and it seems pretty much same diagnosis.

We’ll try and see if it is eligible for swop as well.

    Thanks again.

    Bob
