ParticipantHi, first post on this forum.
Our Bosch Logixx SGS0922GB/11 is not using the salt. It has been many weeks since we filled it up and the machine gets used daily for a family wash.
The hardness setting has been 4 until recently when we tried 7 but no difference. Our water supplier’s website tells me that our hardness is 288mg/l.
There is also a sandy residue left inside cups and glasses on the top tray. We’ve checked the spray bars and they are clean and appear to be flowing well and revolving (checked by opening the door slightly when working – towels at the ready!).
The only other thing we noticed is that there was some salt encrusted on the inside of the filler cap, underneath the translucent window. This wiped off with a finger.
Any suggestions please? Thanks in advance.

Hi tlx,
So far as I am aware the dishwasher will not use a huge amount of salt, but since I’m in a very soft water area I can’t advise on how much or little it should be using.
Your wash first issue with the “sand” type reside is food particulate, it goes that way after the wash process and will wash off. It’s often described as grit. It will be down to the load pattern, spray arms obstructed or blocked or the filters need cleaning, possibly a combination of one or more. The spray has to be able to reach the areas that you’re getting this on and, if there’s anything underneath partially blocking the spray then you’ll get this happening.
There’s nothing else it can be I’m afraid.
The salt residue you see may well be limescale deposition which would fit with your suspicion that the salt container is faulty. If you try rubbing it off with a cloth with some vinegar on it that will tell you, if it is removed by that then limescale is what it is. If it doesn’t, or there is a “rainbow” effect left then you may another problem.
I don’t know if anyone else knows of any particular issues on that machine as I don’t see many Bosch ones. 😉

When you unscrew the salt container cap, does water flow from it and into the tub?

Thanks for the responses so far.
I’m happy to accept that the deposits on the top shelf are food particles. The filters are always clear so I’d like to rule that out. The cups and glasses on the top tray do obscure the jets on the upper spray bar but then anything on the top tray will do this, won’t it? Am I missing something here…
In answer to Martin’s question, yes, the water in the salt container rises and spills onto the floor of the dishwasher when the lid is removed.

Engineer time I reckon to get it checked out. This machine has a built-in infra red sensor for dirt levels so not only is the water softener giving trouble but the water flow is also. We may have a local independant that can call and sort it for you by clicking here: –
