We recently moved into a new house with the above French style fridge freezer. The house had been lying empty for a few months before we moved in but fridge freezer was on (unsure if turned off for a period before owners switched it back on prior to move completion).
Immediate problem noticed was icemaker not working – chamber was bone dry and not cold. I have had a British Gas appliance engineer out (as part of previous owner’s cover) and they believe the whole unit needs replaced.
Over time we have noticed the freezer is barely below freezing – ice takes 1-2 days to form, frozen fruit etc is clearly just frozen and melts quickly in your hand. Have set the control panel to -22c (coldest setting) but no change.
Pressing Fast Freeze option engages the symbol on the control panel but it makes no difference to temp and the mode never disengages unless done manually. The fast cooling option for the fridge seems to work more as expected (ie it disengages automatically after a period) . However, while the fridge is cool, it never sees to be very chilled on the lowest setting.
(possibly unrelated) but the digital display on the control panel is slightly faulty, in that one set of lights to form the digits in the freezer temp display does not light up – so it looks like – 4c when it should be -14c.
Some Googling reveals the freezer temp issue might be a result of it being in “Demo Mode” – I will try the button sequence to engage/disengage this tonight – however I note that the display does not reveal that this is on (it should say oF oF I think)
All tips, advice and questions very welcome
