ParticipantHi guys,
My mum’s Hotpoint washer WF530P is not working. The Wash Enhance and On/Off lights are flashing.
Have scoured the net and this forum and am led to believe this is F08 code, ‘Heater Relay’. (Though I did notice eSpares have the lights decoded in the opposite direction?!)
The machine lets water in. Heats the water. Turns the drum as per a wash. Then, I think, before a rinse it drains the water but then the lights come on.
It doesn’t let any more water in and doesn’t get to the spin.
I cleaned the filter, and it does appear to be draining correctly. The water is definitely being heated, so can I eliminate the heating element?
The usual diagnosis on here for F08 seems to be ‘needs a new PCB’.
She lives 80 miles from me, so I would like to have the spares with me when I next visit.

ModeratorAre you sure it is a WF530 and not a WF560? Regardless the name of the left hand vertical flashing light is immaterial. If it is the top light then it is F08. A notoriously difficult fault to eliminate and truth to tell not really worth it on an old machine like this one is. A new pcb would need to be programmed with smart card and card reader. Taking a chance on anything from eBay could mean a 160 mile wasted journey. For a £100 on top of what you may have to lay out without any certainty of fixing the machine you could buy something like a basic BEKO which would be perfectly fine for a single person. The Hotpoint machine is just a rebadged cheapo Indesit when all is said and done.

ParticipantThanks for that Iadom. Defo WF530P. Got my brother to have a look. He disconnected tube from pressure switch and tried to blow down it. He said he can feel resistance. So I guess there is a blockage at the bottom of the tube. He’s gonna look for something to push down it, like wire I guess, to see if he can clear it. If it does I will clean it when next up there.
Cheers

ModeratorF08 can be pressure switch related . It’s likely to have a sealed outer drum so not possible to get into the lower pressure chamber to clean effectively.:(

ParticipantWhat method to you recommend to clean it? Hot water down the tube?

ModeratorDon’t know of any successful methods tbh.

ParticipantMy brother managed to clear the obstruction in the pressure tube. Hot washes with soda crystals were then used. Seems to have fixed the problem. Will make sure occasional hot wash used to prevent it happening again.
Thanks for the help.June 1, 2020 at 3:36 pm #466537Briski
ParticipantWanted to update this thread as the problem returned shortly after my last post. I came across a similar thread where the chap changed the element, even though no obvious fault with it. For £10 delivered I decided it was worth trying. I changed the element, and the machine has worked correctly since.
