ParticipantI have a twelve year old Baumatic BDI-652 dishwasher that hasn’t been cleaning the lower rack very well for sometime now.
After some investigation have discovered that the lower arm is not spraying or rotating.I have taken the botom off the machine and removed the diverter valve. It is broken and was permanently blocking the lower feed pipe, hence no water at the lower arm.
It is a very simple solenoid assembly and is screwed to the wash pump.
Can anyone tell me if this part is sold seperately or as I suspect just as part of the whole wash pump assembly. The pump is perfectly good and it will be a big expense to replace the whole thing just for that diverter valve. In the meantime I have removed the broken flap and reassembled the machine. Now got no divert so time will tell if it’s good enough!

KeymasterHonestly, my first thought was, “one of those has lasted 12 years!!!” 😉
It’s one of their Chinese ones and bluntly put, not worth spending much if any money on it at that age and most assuredly not the well over £100 for a wash pump and, that’s all you can get, the full thing or nothing.

ParticipantThanks Kwatt, just as I suspected.
Twelve years old and never a problem til now. 🙂 Guess I’ll count my blessings.Do you think it will wash ok without the diverter valve?

KeymasterIt’ll never be right with that faulty unless you can open it up and jam it open somehow.

ParticipantThe valve is just a solenoid that’s positions a flap to prevent water into the lower wash arm. The flap was broken a permanently blocking the lower pipe.
I have removed the broken flap so the diverter valve does nothing now. (Open to both upper and lower arms)
I suspect it was just there to give a half load programme. So I’m hoping it all works ok on full load washes.February 20, 2020 at 2:54 pm #466623kwatt
KeymasterYes, that’s exactly what it’s for, to give the half load function that hardly anyone uses anyway.
