Hi Lawrence,
In a word “no”, they are not straightforward.
There is a screw underneath the retainer that is a pain to get to.
Rightly or wrongly I bend the base plate slightly to get to it, others here will I’m sure tell you to do the job properly and take back sides and base off to access it.
