Beko DWD4310- runs long program even when set to “rapid”

Our machine sometimes (more often nowadays) runs one of the long, hot programs even when set to 2 (“rapid”)
.
Still clean, obviously, but not too convenient when we need the items, and wasteful on energy.
If we remember, just before running, we move the control knob a couple of notches beforehand then back to 2, and this often fixes the problem But not always.
