Any advice for choosing our new washing machine would be appreciated.

    Background:

Our old washing machine is a Bosch Classixx6 1400 express. It’s a good machine. The bearings were replaced last year (thank you for the website info), but now it’s leaking, and has a variable spin.

It gets a lot of use (4 people, some sports clothes). Most used programs are: easycare 30C, 40C; cottons full 40C, full 60C (bedding); delicates, delicates with a ‘hold’ on the rinse cycle; 1200 spin, 800 spin.

One person needs to use a simple unperfumed washing powder. Cleaning the machine before using this, is done with a few squirts of white vinegar and a rinse cycle. Washing cycles for these clothes and bedding need extra water input, to rinse out as much of the washing powder residue as possible. The Classixx6 has an ‘Aqua Plus’ facility.

    ——-

I’ve been dreading the moment when this washing machine reached the end of the road, but it’s there now. Budget wise, more rather than less. No plastic drums (perfumed washing powders will impregnate). Good rinsing. Ability to have more water in the drum.

The machine is freestanding in the utility room, so no height or width restriction. Clothes are line dried, or dried near the boiler (winter). 7-10 ish loads a week.

Any direction on the least worst options would be gratefully received.

    Thank you.

    Hi

Miele, Miele and then Miele for all your questions 🙂

They are the best you will get for your usage, increased rinses and durability. Not so good news spares are more expensive, service is carried out by their own service agents and the prices start around the 600 mark.

All that said they are still the best out there.

    Dear Don

Thank you so much for your advice. I’ve downloaded some of the Miele manuals, and am relieved to see the controllable options in which water levels can be increased inside the machine.

One of Miele’s (relatively) less expensive machines currently has an extra 3 years of guarantee if registered after purchase, making 5 years parts and labour included. If this washing machine were to break down one minute after the guarantee ends, with spares astronomical in cost and DIY impossible, that works out at about £3.48/week over the 5 years. Which seems reasonable.

    Thanks again!

Go for it now you know the facts of the matter and that you are under no illusions. The only machine that is better, as a general comment, is a VZUG Adora series but that ain`t hundreds they are thousands and you are stuck to their service since there is not a single part listed via part ware houses = very exclusive and elusive stuff bought by big shots and the elite but common in Switzerland and Europe. The 900 quid Vzug as far as known is a re badged Maytag / Whirlpool at a high price. Make of this what you will.

While V Zug are renowned to be the best at what they do there is very little volume here in the UK. As far as we are aware they make all of their own product. There is a little more info here Miele is still the best out there for the majority of UK users.

Don. Very true. That is why I said they are exclusive and elusive.
