due to the current state of affairs I,ve just cancelled my Yell account. been thinking about doing so for a long while but as things now stand every penny will count and I dont think Yell is worth the cost seeing as Google brings up a listing for free. anyone got any opinion, am I going to regret it?

    just reduced my yell account
realised i had an entry in electrical appliance repairs. In the old days of the book, under the headings there was a “see also ” list so people would look around the book. These days no one is going to google search electrical appliance repairs they will search for a specific appliance

That is a good shout. I do spend about £170 a month on yell.com with sponsored listing. I do get a few jobs a month with it and it probably does pay for itself but i’m thinking about dropping it too.

How did you cancel – phone, email? I looked into it but thought there was a protocol of doing so in writing with an x amount of days notice…

would never spend that much think my bill is about 150 annually plus they do a simple website at 25 per month

that only about £450 a year thats under £40 a month. just cut out about £100 a year as was paying more

I’ve got 3 sponsored adds with them like most of the competitors in my area. It’s the only advertising I do. It does pay for itself or I wouldn’t have been doing it over the years. I keep a regular check of where my customers come from. My website and the fact we’ve got return customers from past 30 years of trading give me all the customers I need.

I am seriously considering cancelling now though with the upturn of events. If I can’t work, then why advertise.
I too would like to know who to call to cancel please if you have the info to hand.

Keep safe and hopefully financially secure!!!!!

to cancel you should have a contact number on your account mine got me through to someone called Kelly. she tried to keep me on board and offered discounts but for the time being at least I,ll give it a miss. I looked at it like this, say I wanted someone to mend a roof tile first call, do I know someone, does a friend know someone, then look at Google they will list my local people so I can check them out. 25 years ago it was look in Yellow pages kept next to the phone.

Stopped mine about 4 years ago when the rep harrased the shit out of me to renew, trying to hard sell setting up a website i told them to ram it after that, never noticed any drop in income the only reason i kept it going was for older customers.

Thanks Johnny that’s reassuring to hear. like you I think its the older customers that tend to use it most.

I cancelled my Yell sponsored listing at the beginning of last year after about 15 years with them and I was right to do so, my work was not affected at all, I kinda knew I was never getting anything from them but was afraid to cancel. I am so glad I did, I now save a fortune and I have never been so busy mainly down to Google and Google maps which is free.

Its amazing you guys are still using Yell.

I stopped when the Yellow pages book stopped. I remember they wanted basically the same amount for the listing on their website than they wanted for the printed advert in the book which is completely ridiculous in my mind.

I took pleasure in telling the pushy reps where to go, no effect on business at all.

I have to admit, I wondered why this was even a thing anymore. Why anyone even paid for Yell or any of them TBH.

Hardly anyone uses them, they just search online.
