ParticipantHello there.
My Fridge Freezer has literally just packed up – dreadful timing.
It was a LG GRF459BSCA – if you type that model into Google, virtually nothing comes up, so it is pretty old and definitely not worth trying to fix.
The serial number begins with “801”, which suggests the very beginning of 2008.
I have done a bit of research and have overwhelmed myself a bit.My main requirements are that I do not want a water dispenser (our old one had it and we literally never used it).
The fridge should be tall (given that we have a high roof in our kitchen), but no more than about 60 cms wide.
How much is it reasonable to spend on a fridge freezer, these days? (e.g. is there a minimum spend to get something worthwhile).
Are there any brands to look for/avoid?
What sort of rating should I be looking for? A+ and A++ seem the norm at the moment – is it worth paying more for the latter?
Any pointers would be very much appreciated.

ParticipantThank you – unfortunately, they are a bit out of budget (am able to push towards the £500.00 mark), though they are very nice.
I have currently been looking at Bosch – https://ao.com/p/reviews/kgn39vl3ag-bosch-serie-4-fridge-freezer-stainless-steel-49381-28?page=2
Slightly over budget but seems to be getting very good reviews. Worth considering?

ParticipantThanks, mate.
I am very tempted by that one.
One other quick thing – how important is it to leave a gap between both sides of the fridge?
I have read that some Bosch models are “perfect fit”, which means that they are able to go tight up against walls on either side.
However, I have also read that as long as there a gap along the back wall and at the top, any fridge can have cabinets/walls tight up against the sides.

Moderatoryou would have to download instructions to check. some units get rid if heat through the sides
all fridges need air flow to work. They effectivly move the heat from inside to out, therfore there need to be a way of getting rid of the heat thats expelled

ParticipantThanks, Dave.
Really appreciate your help.
I have looked at the manual for the recommended model, above, and it seems that it can go right up against a wall (on either side), unless it is next another appliance.
I think I am going to go for that one.
Good job I nipped on here – I had never even heard of the brand and was pretty intent on going with Bosch.

I know, it took me almost as long to buy my washing machine and I went for a Siemens in the end. At the moment I have a Zanussi f/f but it has started to rust so time to go. I have to know things like where were they made, what do the professionals think about them and how many times do they need repairing?
July 3, 2020 at 11:11 am #468129electrofix
Moderatoreven we dont always know where each model is made. Even your siemans can be made in various factories including poland and many others. Zanussi are no different
Siemans is also part of the Bosch group so the same machine is made under the Bosch brand name and that happens a lotthe problem with this game is the same as cars. you could say ford cars go wrong more often but you cant make sweeping statements like that without knowing the numbers involved. I see more Hotpoints but that does not necessarily mean Hotpoint are more unreliable it could just mean there are more Hotpoints out there so there are more of them to go wrong

I tend to look to see what companies make the different brands and also where they were made. My f/f has gone rusty the side nearest the cooker (gas) it is about 9 inch a way from it. I have had the f/f for over 10 years from John Lewis.
