ParticipantHi, I have Smeg A42 oven (15 years old). Both ovens are overheating. The top one is getting to 240-250C on 180C setting. After a while it switches itself off until cold again. Bottom one is similar. Are thermostats faulty?
TIA

Thank you Dave
Just checked and on 80C setting it runs about 100C.
Checked again at 180C and this time it held it correctly. Same at 230 setting
It looks a bit erratic as it went 60 deg over previouslyApril 22, 2020 at 8:48 pm #468171rafal50

Sorry not sure what you mean by “cooling fan running odd for 2 thermostats to go”
Do you mean the tangential fan at the back?April 22, 2020 at 8:49 pm #468172kaibart
ModeratorYes I do 2 thermostat at the same time is very unusual

The fan runs freely and quietly, just tested it by bypassing fan control thermostat.
Can the fan control thermostat be failing ( it’s just an on/off thermal switch) ?
Also if I wanted to replace both oven thermostats (erratic temperature control) can I do it without removing the gas hob?

ModeratorThere us a possibility of the toc terminal switch as u call it failing these I change alot the other thing to check is there is a big multiplug with about 16 wires in the back right hand corner check none of these have burnt out this is common too.
regarding thermostats they can be changed I can go through a step by step guide to access them if needs beApril 23, 2020 at 8:11 pm #468176rafal50
ParticipantThank you very much kaibart!
I will change the fan thermostat and check the plug first. -
