I found a generic Bosch dishwasher manual that appeared to work. The reset procedure (also referred to in different places in the manual as the cancel function, and the abort programme function) is to press the start button for about 3 seconds. I had tried this previously but it just produced mysterious intermittent grinding noises, and the machine was unresponsive to attempts to start it. The manual I found mentions that after pressing start for 3 seconds, the machine will empty itself of any water present by pumping out for a minute or so. These were the grinding noises I heard – the machine was empty and there was noting to pump. If you wait until the noises have stopped (seemed like more than a minute) the machine will have reset successfully and can be programmed.
