ParticipantBasically the cover plate on the roof of the grill is hanging down. The grill still works.
The only fix I can think of is to solder a washer in place with a high temp solder.
Is there a better way ? Pls see photos in links …

Moderatorwhats the Enr number?
drill a small hole and put a self tapper in as solder is unlikely to hold for very long plus you will be heating metal up to beyond its design temp

ParticipantSorry Dave. I just took down the number on the front of the manual (hb..905/hb..915).
The oven is actually in my parents house.
Never thought to take down model number.

Moderatornot enough unfortunalty
wanted to see how the element is held up but cant from yout photoin the past when this has happened i have used self tappers or nuts and bolts. Nuts and bolts are a lot harder as you have to get the nut on the other side of the hole along with washers

ParticipantHi Dave.
Thanks. Cant get into it from above unfortunately. Also since its metal, I dont think a self tapper will work.
I can get back to you with a model number but it might take a while.
Would a high temp solder and washer work ? What solder would be suitable ?
Thanks again,
dbee

Moderatorself tappers will work
you have to drill a small pilot hole the only problem with the grill area is getting a drill in there so you have to use a 90 degree drill drivesolder since the grill element glows red hot (about 900 degrees) normal solder is not up to the job. you may be able to use silver solder which melts at 700 degrees but brazing is more like it but then you would have to strip and remove all the insulation to do it

ParticipantI’ve just repaired the same problem. Siemens had used a single self-tapper into a small metal clip at the front of the grill to support the whole grill element front and cover. The clip had complely corroded away, so the self tapper fell out. So you lose the use of an appliance with a single failed screw mount!
There was a 8.2 mm hole where the clip was in the top of the grill area. I found an M5 flanged steel bush and glued it in this hole with JB Weld Extreme Heat “glue”. Its actually a cement, 500deg C rated. I used an M5x 40mm screw to hold it in place, vertically, under pressure from a piece of folded card, while it dried. It needs this pressure because the fibre insulation behind the hole wants to push the bush back out. I left it for an hour to initially harden. I carefully took the screw out then ran the grill at 50deg for 30 mins, then 100deg C, then 150deg to harden off the cement.
After letting the grill cool I reassembled everything with an M5 x 20 mm socket cap screw. You dont have a lot of height in the grill to screw, never mind drill anything. A hex key worked fine. Its all working well now. -
