My just out of guarantee jlwd1613 has stopped drying. The fan still operates but the heater doesn’t. I can’t find any exploded diagram of the machine, nor of the near equivalent ZWD91683NW, so any help or information will be appreciated, but I found a diagram of an AEG drying assembly that looks very like mine although the component descriptions don’t seem quite right:

The heater resistance is OK and both of the thermostats near the heater (one on the top, one on the side) test OK (why are there two of them?) but the heater is never powered up. On my machine I can’t see anything corresponding to component 471, described as ‘NTC Humidity Sensor Probe’). The component labelled 470 (described as ‘Water temperature probe’) is open circuit. Might I be right in thinking that 470 is one of these https://shop.zanussi.co.uk/laundry/washing-machines/thermostats/washer-dryer-temperature-probe/p/3792171203 and that replacing it might fix the problem?before you jump in you need to check if your machine is unmodified
they found that the wires break as they cross the top of the heater box. to cure this there is a wiring mod adding a brand new wire from the control board and a re-route of the cables on top

Yes, that was the problem – Dave, many thanks for flagging it up! I was puzzled at first that your photo didn’t correspond to my machine, but then I found a German forum showing a machine exactly like mine, and with the same broken cable problem – like mine, both wires were fractured just where they entered the clamp. Bad design – wrong cable, wrong type of clamp – so a predictable failure, concealed by the useless ‘protective’ tape!

if you want to cure it properly you have to add new flexible cables and another new cable down to the boardboth cables available from lux

mod kit will fit your machine. if you go on AEG site and put in your pnc number you get a list of parts
one of those parts is a the wiring loom from the board up to the sensor part no 140033407028
