KeymasterHello
I have a DIPLOMAT ADP 8221 showing error E3 nit heating water. The Thermostat had tripped and I reset this. But now I am not getting an error code just the begining of a new wash cycle and it just stops, opening the front door I find a pool of warm water and I also experienced very very hot elements. Can you advise if its worth obtaining a new thermostat for the £8.80 available at http://www.inter-spares.co.uk or is it likely to be another replacable unit.
Thanks in advance to all

Dean,
You are describing a no circulation fault as far as I can tell – E3 is no heat and the safety may well have tripped. If the there is no water circulation this is guaranteed as the water splashing down is what takes the heat off the element. The other possibility is the famous underfilling problem which afflicts these machines, again insufficient water to take the heat off the elements will cause the safety to trip.Check “Diplomat” “SMEG” and “E2” in the search mode at the top of the forum – you’ll find out loads more.
Power off if going in please.

Hi Deano,
There’s seven possible starting points for an E3 error, heater or thermostat related is most likely the cause, but it’s not a dead cert.
Out with the multi-meter and a bit of patience and, if you’re not too sure on that score, then I’d advise an engineer in all honesty.

Hello (this is deano2) cant access from that account – this is my partners account !
This fault is quite common from the sound of it ? Ok I investigated this as much as I can, just some furter questions – the water left after the machine stops is removed when you power cycle and reset the program to a new program, the machine then fills up again (you can here the mains going into the machine) I have a multimeter and would like to further investigate, I am confident to further test this with your guidance – what readings am I expecting to see for success/failure – I hope it is the thermostat as it easy to replace and quite cheap. BTW this failed some time ago with a similar error and the engineer said he had replaced the thermostat as they had a known problem on this model ?
Thanks in advance. (you guys are very helpful !!!!!!) 🙂

Bear in mind that any testing must be done with the power off……
A typical heater should give a reading of 20-30 ohms. The safety stats should read near as spit zero. You will only get accurate results with the components disconnected from the rest of the circuits. Check also for broken wiring at the door hinge.
You haven’t answered as to whether you have circulation or not – no circ = tripped safety every time.
If you are not confident, please get pro help – check Repairs@ or Directories for a UKW repairer in your area.

Hello
I worked on this yesterday evening and have some new developments. The RH side cover was taken off revealing the thin matrix bottle, this had an awful lot of sedament and stuff half way up the bottle, so I thought with my original E3 error code that the water could not pass through, anyway I put the hose into the matrix and have now cleaned it, all other visible hoses are clean. I put it all back together and it works for longer in the cycle but stops with a NEW error code E2 – I have looked on this forum and it is mentioned as a famous error ? but I am struggling to find any real detail the manual states “the dishwasher has loaded too much water and the safety level switch has been tripped” this error is solid and happens with every program I try. Can you advise whats happening and if a swith has tripped where is it and can I rectify this ?
Thanks again guys

Hi Debbie,
E2 is indeed a famous error and searching on here will reap as much information as we are allowed to give you. Essentially 9/10 times it will be a blockage in the matrix, but there are quite a few things that can cause the error to be thrown up.
Luckily the air break (matrix) is pretty cheap and if it was really badly clogged I’d replace it as a matter of course.
The part number for it is 766610112 and it costs £30.60 excluding VAT and carriage, Dave can send you one if you like.
Beyond that all I can do is advise that you read through the E2 posts on the forum.

The matrix is pretty clean now and no signs of any obvious blockages, so can I ask what other things can cause an E2 error. I am determined to get to the bottom of this.
Thanks again

KeymasterRead through all the posts Debbie, it’s all there. There’s slews of information in the forums on this topic.
We are not allowed to send or publish the service bulletin on this due to copyright infringement and the manufacturers will not allow us to give them out I’m afraid, so it would mean we’d likely get sued if we did. 🙁

KeymasterAs much information as we can give on this “E2” error has been written by Penguin and you can find it here;

Thanks Chris.
