I got asked to look at this fridge because it was tripping the electrics and I have traced the problem back to the foamed in NTC sensor. There are 2 NTC sensors on this unit, the one that I can see, access (and get a replacement for) within the unit is fine but the foamed in one is short to earth, is there an official way of fixing this fault?
I have for now (kill or cure with the customers permission) cut the wires to the sensor in the hope that the unit has a default strategy that it will fall back on, it is not throwing any error codes yet and appears to be happy but it is to early to say if this would work long term.Jem

Participantnot done any for years but remember some of the ones say 12 -15 years ago .. you went into facier panel at top .. and by passed one of them and it worked .. fine ..cant remember how ,, a must be getting old

ParticipantThis unit is only 6 years old – I remember hearing/reading that in some makes you can do something to eliminate the sensor but not sure if this one of them which is why I decide to disconnect it (kill or cure).

in some makes, Leibherr is one of them, if a sensor goes faulty the unit goes on a timed basis, so long on and so long off. It also throws up a fault code for a sensor failure.

ParticipantIt had not thrown any codes by the time that I left it yesterday, indeed it appeared to be running as if nothing had happened so I told the customer to keep an eye on it and see what develops.

Moderatorif it is running a safety programme i would expect problems if the weather got hotter as it may start to struggle . i assume you have suggested they keep an eye on temperatures

ParticipantYes I said that I did not know if it would work and that I was doing it as a temporary fix so that they could keep the food fresh (they are a self isolating family) till I could find out what the official fix is and that there was no guarantee that it would work, I will probably suggest that they put a thermometer into the unit as the display only shows the set point temperature not the actual temperature.
I am not sure what this sensor is for (what reason) as it is foamed in (probably around the evaporator area of the back wall) as the other sensor is in a visible holder inside the cabinet.
