I have an 8 year old Liebherr GN 4113 Index 20J / 057. It has a an old style “analog” control panel:

It was not able to keep temperature down and alarm was sounding. Service technician has been here and found the fan had stuck due to icing. He melted the ice with a hot gun, but didn’t have time to wait for the fan sensor to kick in and verify it worked. It didn’t. I then thawed the freezer for 4 hours with a hot fan to melt any ice that might still block the fan. The top freezing part is working fine (-35 degrees inside there), but the fan is still not working and the overall temperature in the freezer is way outside the acceptable range (no air circulation).
I read on this forum ways to access service mode to force the fan to spin (to validate if the motor is working). The instructions are however for models with displays, not for the “analog” type I have. If there is a service mode for my freezer, I would assume the service technician would have accessed it to validate the fan motor, but even so, I figure it’s best to ask here.

It does sound as though the fan motor is kaput though.
Ice build up, that would need testing, is likely to be a sensor issue.

Is this a non-EU model as there’s no hits for that? If it’s non-EU I can’t look anything up for you. 🙁

There is a service menu to test the fan, this unit is not analogue, there is the logic front board and that sends settings to the rear motherboard, I would suggest the evaporator sensor is faulty, it brings the fan on around -20 to -25 and also terminates the defrost. part number 9590148.

Thank you for the information. Yes, this unit was bought in Norway in 2012, and it’s plausible that the reseller’s storage was in Denmark. Does anyone know how to get into the service menu? It would be helpful to manually force the fan to start to see it works or not, to rule it out of the equation.
Ah. Trade secrets 🙂 I’ve already had (and paid) an authorised Liebherr service engineer on site and he found the fan not to run because of too much ice buildup. He said the fan almost never failed and should start fine as soon as the ice had melted. It did not. I’m not too keen on paying him one more time. We’ve already bought a new Liebherr as a replacement, so if I can get this one to work, it’s a bonus. If I cannot figure out how to enter the service menu (there aren’t that many button combinations to press) I will try to remove the fan and see if it runs when it gets power. I need to narrow down the possible faulty parts. If the fan runs fine when manually triggered, then it is most likely, as you said, the evaporator sensor.
One more information: When I measure the temperature inside the top unit (with a Fluke thermometer) it goes between -35 degrees and +30 degrees, so the freezer part and the defroster (heating) part seems to work as intended.
He is correct, the fans are bullet proof, in 20 years of working on Liebherr units I have only replaced a handful of fans, I still think the issue will be the sensor if you are getting those temperatures and icing up, the fan is 2 watts at 9 volts, so do NOT power it to mains voltage, if it did not work after his visit, it is not unreasonable to ask the Engineer to reattend as a recall as he has not resolved your issue, simply defrosting it without carrying out checks as to why it iced up is not satisfactory.
