Hi all, Problem as per title really. We suddenly realised the fridge wasn’t cooling at all, then later freezer alarms started going off. Not good. If I turn it off for a little while and then on again it appears to start working again, with freezer freezing again and rear panel of fridge getting cold. Then after about an hour it stops cooling again.
I deduce from this that the main cooling components are OK, but a sensor somewhere has gone AWOL or something is blocked or….?
Any suggestions?Deleted duplicate post in General Enquiries 😉

ParticipantCheck that the freezer is not over iced, if you have ice or frost on the rear panel in the freezer that is your issue, if the system senses the freezer is not at the correct temperature, it will sacrifice the fridge to put all its effort in maintaining the freezer.

ParticipantThanks Tony, I’ve just removed the evaporator cover inside the freezer and it’s very badly iced up – solid at the bottom. There’s no ice on the outside of the cover.

ParticipantHi Peter, slowly and without getting one area too hot at one time use a hairdryer to clear the ice and the pour some boiling water in the drain channel, as it is possible the drain got blocked with ice, causing the thick ice to form at the bottom, until the water flows away to the evaporation tray on the compressor.

ParticipantThanks Tony. It’s defrosting nicely now, but I think will be solid for a little while. The blocked drain is a distinct possibility since I have had some ice forming in the bottom of the freezer for a little while now. Fingers crossed for an easy fix?

ParticipantUpdate: Now all clear – I thought it would take longer. Pipe was indeed blocked with ice. What’s the best plan now – Reassemble and see if it’s ok now, or are there any other tests I can do?
