ParticipantI have a gastro-line double door beer fridge. Bought 29th Nov 2019, installed end of April 2020. When I first got it, it worked however it got to the cut off temp (2°C) and compressor would violently knock. 4 weeks ago it stopped working altogether, and now if I disconnect the compressors power, reconnect and turn on, it works (goes from 20 to 12°C) but at that temp it violently rattles for 5-10 seconds and then shuts off and starts heating again. Checked the power connectors, all fine, fan still works, cleaned fans etc. Is the compressor gone?

Moderatorwell if you bought it less than 12 months ago it should be their problem
but it does not sound good for the compressor

ParticipantIt only came with parts warranty, and for them to give a new part they need an engineers report, which I would have to pay for, and because it’s a commercial fridge, no normal company will touch it and the commercial companies won’t come.out to it. Been onto citizens advice bureau and they’ve passed the case to trading standards. Absolute nightmare, because I’ve had about 8-10 weeks out of it. Total waste of money.

I had it workiit.this morning and it cycled on and off about 10-15 times but about an hour ago it wouldn’t cycle on and started to heat up again, however, what I did seemed to stop the violent rattling. So I wonder if the problem is the relay switch?

Moderatorhow did you pay for it ?
if credit card see if your covered by them. its a faulty appliance and not fit for purposejust looked at their site, very dodgy business practices. it says on the page one year warranty. Its only when you look in the small print it says all warranties are part only. This could be bordering on an intention to decieve by not making it clear, after all who reads the contracts and they rely on this to sting people when things go faulty
was there anything flagged up as you went to pay to make it clear it was a part only warranty ?“”Items are not supplied with any warranty unless specifically stated on the individual item page. Where warranty is stated, then it is a “parts only warranty” and no labour / engineer costs are covered unless stated otherwise. Under “parts only warranty”, the purchaser is responsible for all labour / engineer costs incurred during the warranty period. All warranties apply to items purcahsed within the UK. Any items exported or delivered outside the UK are not supplied with warranty.””
“”We are resellers to business customers and as permitted under the Unfair Contract Terms Act 1977 we exclude liability for claims regarding the quality or fitness for purpose of goods or otherwise which consumers can make under the Sale of Goods Act 1979. We are liable for death or personal injury caused by our negligence. We do not accept any liability for indirect or consequential losses or loss of profits.””
unfair contract terms act
“The UCTA applies if one party attempts to limit liability for the requirements under the Sale of Goods Act. Liability cannot be excluded for breach of contract with a consumer, and is subject to a test of reasonableness if the contract is business to business. “”so it has to be reasonable. you need to find out what that means and can it be useful.
