Mr Apollo
ParticipantHello everyone.
We are having problems with our fridge, an Electrolux IK280Z, it’s slightly unusual, as it is a narrower ‘Swiss norm’ one, 55cm width. It has a small freezer box at the top, which seems to be working fine, but the main body of the fridge isn’t cold. There is a temperature readout that seems correct, i.e. warm, even though it has a set temperature of 4C. which suggests its reading the temperature correctly. It has a fan that comes on and off occasionally. However, the evaporator (?), at the bottom of the fridge isn’t getting cold at all, even when I can hear the compressor going. The compressor doesn’t seem to be running anymore frequently, or making any different noises, than it always did. There is no physical damage that I can see. It seemed to be working fine, then suddenly stopped, rather than slowly degrading in performance.Having read the FAQs on this website, it looks like it might be due to too little coolant, or a faulty switching valve? Does that sound likely? Or is there another potential fault (that is fixable by the amateur)?
As it is an unusual size to replace, I’d like to see if it is repairable before looking at replacement. Due to the rest of the fitted kitchen, we can’t replace it with a standard sized fridge, without major remodelling, which isn’t going to happen.
Many thanks

Moderatorhave you tried a total defrost
from what i can see this unit uses cold air from the freezer to cool the fridge. to do this there will be an in and an out duct for the air. If either of these is ice blocked the fridge stops working
open doors, power off and leave off for 2 days
then switch back on and see how it goesDave

ParticipantHi Dave,
Thanks for the rapid reply. I’m not sure that is the the problem though. The cooling element for the fridge compartment is at the bottom of the fridge behind a plastic cover. The air is drawn over this by the fan. I’ve taken the plastic cover off, and there is no ice on it, it doesn’t get cold, even when the compressor is working. It looks like the coolant isn’t getting to it, maybe because a valve is stuck, or the electrics are not telling it to open?
Thanks again

Moderatorall the info i am seeing does not show any valves in the fridge circuit or list them in the parts list
am getting 3 units coming up on this model made between 2008 and 2010. Have you got the complete pnc number to narrow it down

ParticipantHi Dave,
Thanks again. The diagrams don’t seem to make full sense to me, there must be a cooling element for the freezer box at the top of the fridge, but it doesn’t appear in any of the diagrams. I’m completely baffled, looks like I’ll have to bite the bullet, and get someone out, or just look for a replacement that will fit the space.
Cheers
